Update – Rick Leach Copy attached. Highlights: Since the beginning of the
year, we have received $5,316.00 from insurance claims on two unrelated
incidents. On Tuesday, February 8,
2011, Don Brady of R.V. Johnson Insurance Agency met with members of the
Condominium Boards to discuss insurance policies for 2011. An insurance
appraisal update will be performed by Jolicoeur Appraisal, Inc., which could
possibly lower insurance premiums in some cases. On February 3, 2011, additional lighting in the center to highlight the “Bird Tree” sculpture was completed. Total cost for the entire project was $5,000.00. The Annual Tree Trimming
Project will begin shortly. If you have an issue with a tree or stump removal,
please fill out a work order so that it may be addressed prior to the beginning
of the project. The office will be closed on
Monday, February 21, 2011 in observance of Presidents Day. If you have guests
visiting and wish an access fob for them to use to enter the community or the
common facilities, you may rent one for a $50.00 deposit payable by check only. Barry Prince thanked the
Candidates who ran for the last P.O.A. election and commented that it was the
best Candidate turnout to date and hoped that they would consider running again
in the future. He also read a few comments from a letter submitted by Miriam
Plonsky in which she expressed thanks for the opportunity to have served on the
P.O.A. Board. Barry expressed his appreciation for her contributions and noted
that she would be missed. Barry Prince also gave an
update on the Spa renovations and advised that final drawings have come in and
that the bids have gone out. He was hopeful of awarding the contract after
Review by the Board. Hopefully work will commence by the beginning of July and
be completed by the beginning of September. Old Business –
Read by Rick Leach December 30, 2010
– Rick Leach spoke of the two (2) bids received for the illuminating of the
sculpture in the Center and recommended the contract offered by Air-Ref Electric
for $4,900.00 Harry Sassower made a motion
to accept the bid from Air-Ref for a sum not to exceed $5,000.00 and passed
unanimously. February 3, 2011 –
Larry Granet made a motion regarding the video taping of Board meetings. Florida
Statue, 720.203 (1), states that any parcel owner may tape record or video tape
meetings of the Board. The Board may adopt reasonable rules of the Board and the
Membership. To address this issue, Mr. Granet made a motion that the Board
adopts rules regarding video taping meetings in order to avoid distractions or
disruption of the meetings. The motion was made that “all taping and or
recording of P.O.A. meetings be done from the rear of the room” Joel Brusso asked that the
motion be amended, requesting that the word “video” be added to the
recording. This amendment was accepted and seconded. The motion was adopted. New Business None Committee Reports: Pool Committee
– Mel Teitzman Mel reminded the members
that next week there would be an influx of visitors for Presidents week and
requested volunteers to act as Pool Monitors. A schedule will be posted in the
clubhouse for those who wish to participate. Welcoming Committee
– Tam Ginsberg Tam advised the members that
this year the Welcoming Committee will welcome new owners and, for the first
time, renters to Banyan Springs and its facilities, in the hopes that renters
might someday become new owners. She requested current owners, who see new
people milling around, give them her name and phone number or obtain their phone
number and she will contact them to show them around and to advise them of the
rules and regulations of Banyan Springs. Landscaping Committee -
Dave Lefton Dave reminded us that
landscaping is not an exact science. He appraised the membership of the problems
incurred during this past summer, especially a variety bugs and disease that
attacked palm trees, hedges and grass. One of these diseases, “instant
death”, caused us to lose eight (8) palm trees. Winter brought the cold and
the drought, which has caused the grass not to green and has affected many of
our trees and shrubs. The recent cold spell played havoc with the flowers and
shrubs, so our maintenance crew covered them with plastic and we were fortunate
to lose less than five (5) percent of our flowers and only a few shrubs. Dave
also mentioned that the spring tree trimming is just around the corner. The floor was then opened
for questions. There were several issues discussed and a lively dialogue
followed. Amongst the issues discussed were the following: ·
Proper top attire in the Spa area ·
Comcast problems ·
Several people expressed their
displeasure with the type of music being played at the poolside. ·
The printing status of the Banyan
Telephone Directory. Larry Granet made a motion
to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 P.M. Seconded by Paul Whitney and passed
unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Tony Scorsese
